ROUGE ONE to be 1st Star Wars Spin-off + Episode VIII Gets May 26, 2017 Release Date!

Lucas Film revealed that the 1st Star Wars standalone film will be titled Rouge One with Gareth Edwards directing. According to StarWars.com "the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga.”

Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To will be producing Rouge One along with John Swartz who will co-produce on the project. It was also announced that Felicity Jones will star. Not much is known about the plot other than speculation that it may revolve around a group of bounty hunters. The film is due for release on December 16, 2016 with shooting scheduled to begin in London this summer.

Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger confirmed today that Episode VIII will release on May 26, 2017, 40 years and a day after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977. Rian Johnson will be writing and directing.
