Director Michelle MacLaren has left the project apparently due to what Warner Bros. and Maclaren are calling "creative differences".

“Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together,” the studio said in a statement.

This isn't the first time a studio has parted ways with a female director when it comes to the superhero film genre. You may remember back in 2011 when director Patty Jenkins was suppose to helm Thor 2 which would have been the first Marvel film with a female director, however Jenkins and Marvel didn't have the same vision and the movie was eventually passed to Alan Taylor.

MacLaren, is an experienced TV showrunner and director with some impressive directing credits like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones just to name a few.

We don't know the specifics of the "creative differences" that led to the split but we do know that MacLaren had been vigorously involved with the development of the script. We're sure more details will come to light as time goes on and it's doubtful that her departure will delay the film's release slated for 2017. I would be more concerned about how Batman v Superman and it's follow up movies do at the box office first. Marvel has a proven track record and a history of success with their superhero films. It's still yet to been seen if DC and Warner Bros. will have similar success with theirs. If things don't go well at the box office we may never see a Wonder Woman stand alone on the big screen.

UPDATE: It has been announced that the before mentioned director Patty Jenkins that was at one time attached to Marvel's Thor 2: The Dark World will now be stepping in to replace Michelle MacLaren.

What do you guys think about MacLaren's departure? Are you disappointed? Let us know in the comments below.
