George Lucas Reveals Jar Jar Binks Was Inspired By Disney's Goofy

The Star Wars prequels have polarized fans ever since they were first released over 15 years ago. Most can agree though, that Jar Jar Binks has been the subject of the most criticism. The Gungan's bafoonery and shrill speaking voice have placed him among some of the poorest received characters in film history. Despite this overwhelming backlash, Jar Jar still has it's defenders, mainly George Lucas. "I can't even begin to tell you how much of an influence Disney has had on me," Lucas told the crowd at Disney’s D23 Expo yesterday. "Not many people realize that Goofy was the inspiration for Jar Jar Binks."

Lucas added, "I know that you will look at him differently now. It's pretty obvious, actually, but, um, I love Goofy and I love Jar Jar." Hmm. You know, it actually makes a load of sense. This toy's existence doesn't seem so bizarre anymore.
